Google Introduces AI-Powered Photo Editing Features for Pixel 8 Series Phones
Google has revealed a set of new AI-powered features for its latest Pixel 8 series phones. These features include the Magic Editor, which allows users to manipulate objects within photos by shifting or resizing them. Magic Editor also employs generative AI to reconstruct backgrounds when objects are repositioned, and it offers preset background adjustments. It can suggest contextual changes based on lighting and background conditions, providing users with multiple editing results. Google first introduced this feature at Google I/O in May.
Google acknowledges that the Magic Editor feature is in its early stages, so some results may not fully meet user expectations. Another feature, called Best Take, combines multiple group photos to create an optimal version where subjects are not blinking or looking away. Users can also select different expressions from various shots and merge them into one photo, effectively swapping faces in the original image.
Both the Best Take and Magic Editor features will be available on the Pixel 8 series of phones starting October 12. The new Pixel phones will also offer features like Magic Eraser for removing unwanted objects and Photo Unblur to fix blurry images.
The Pixel 8 Pro, in particular, will have an enhanced version of Magic Eraser, allowing users to remove larger objects from images. Additionally, Google is introducing Zoom Enhance, a feature that uses generative AI to enhance photo quality and pixel gaps when cropping an image; this feature will be available on the Pixel 8 Pro at a later date.
