Artificial intelligence (AI) is undergoing testing by the governing body of Formula One to curb track limit violations at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. 'Computer Vision' technology calculates breaches via shape analysis, identifying authentic violations and expediting response times.

The move comes after an inundation of potential violations during the Austrian Grand Prix, prompting the need for innovative solutions. By employing AI, the FIA aims to streamline the monitoring process and enhance enforcement capabilities.

The technology, successfully used in medicine, is expected to alleviate the burden on the FIA's remote operations centre (ROC). Tim Malyon, FIA's deputy race director, highlights the technology's success in applications like cancer screening data analysis.
